About

This effect was created for my Technical Art 4 class as a new portfolio piece. I wanted to create a versatile stylized fire that I could edit into all sorts of shapes sizes and color in order to show case it in a stylized scene. This effect is being displayed in Unreal’s stylized rendering tutorial map.

First I started by creating a simple UV distortion.

Then I ran that distortion into radial gradients and some simple nose to create a sort of bubbling flame lick.

From there some simple if statements allowed me to create thresholds of saturation that I could set to the correct color I needed.

Threw in some WPO to break it up a little.

Lastly, I added a depth fade and that is all it took.
